About Coffee
Cafe Granja La Esperanza needs no further introduction in the realm of specialty grade competition level coffees, producing winning lots years after year.
CGLE are a specialize group of producers focusing on ultra high altitude coffees with specific regional coffee characteristics. Finca Cerro Azul, Las Margaritas, La Esperanza, and Potosi, are all parts of the CGLE umbrella and each farm produces and highlights coffee with its regional and climatic influence.
The coffee production story started with Rigoberto and Luis Eduardo Herrera’s grandparents in 1945, it is now the third generation. Since Rigoberto brought seeds back from Panama, Cerro Azul became the first Colombian farm hosting the Geisha variety. In 2007, Rigoberto leased and started managing a Panamanian farm named La Carleida. In 2008, he secured the Best of Panama with the Geisha crop from the farm, the same Geisha now produced at Cerro Azul.
The distinct microclimates provide an ideal condition for the variety to grow under abundant sunshine and a high effective evapotranspiration rate. The combination of its soil and rain conditions and the nearness to the equator, results in optimal sugar levels yield for the coffee cherries. The cherries are then precisely hand-selected by the senior crew every 4-5 days for the best quality control, and process in La Esperanza.

Cerro Azul Geisha Honey
With multiple remarkable coffees available from CGLE, we took extra measures and considerations prior to finalizing the purchase of the Geisha varietals from Finca Cerro Azul.
CERRO AZUL Honey Geisha is certainly a captivating and expressive coffee. The distinctive honey processing elevates the Geisha varietal beautifully, where complexity and depth of flavour is clearly complimenting one another.
One can easily spot out the exotic dark fruit aromatics which reminds you of pomegranate and blackberries.
In the cup, we experience the complex and elegant Geisha profile, starting with its outstanding fruity and floral fermentation aromatics, notes of dried mango and pomegranate sweetness, with the papaya and pineapple juice mouth-coating texture gradually showing their presence, lastly rounded off with grape-soda refreshment in the finish.
On the finish, expect elegant cantaloupe-like sweetness and a refreshing kyoho grape soda-like finish.
It is not an exaggeration if one says this coffee is a mixture of tropical fruits and berries fruit basket and yet find it a refreshing experience on every sip of this incredible coffee.
We enjoy this coffee a lot, saying it is a memorable coffee is an understatement.
Figglo Oslo Set Experience
In our tasting experiment with the CERRO AZUL Geisha in the Figglo Oslo Cups set.
Staring from OPEN, it is like adding dried mango and cranberries into a chamomile tea, smooth and balance, with a touch of honey-like sweetness.
Moving into SPLIT, the floral aroma first stands out from the coffee, coming up with a tropical fruit tart body, sweet and creamy.
Lastly a dark fruit fermentation finishing with the TULIP, the coffee remains its high sweetness that filled with the winey blackberry jam-like body.
